Hi, Horseshoe Falls Region United Church!
Greetings, and the Peace of Christ be with you all. My name is Sula Kosacky, and I will be serving as the President of this region for the next two years. My home is in Grimsby, where I live with my partner, 2 dogs and 2 cats. My 2 children and 2 grandchildren all live nearby. We enjoy a large family gathering for dinner on Sundays usually followed by some board games or a D&D session. I’m a Trekkie and a Star Wars nerd.
My background in the United Church includes many years in lay leadership in youth ministry, service as a minister in 3 churches, participation in Horseshoe Falls region and serving on the Discipleship and Justice Commission and the Regional Executive. Outside of congregational ministry I completed years of basic and advanced CPE training and worked as a chaplain providing spiritual health support and therapy in the healthcare system for nine years. I am passionate about pastoral care and support, and in my congregational ministry setting I run grief support, depression support, and mindfulness training groups open to the community.
I am also passionate about church staff and clergy support and pastoral care. In a time where clergy and staff can feel the stress of decreasing resource availability and a deep sense of isolation and loneliness in our work, support from the wider church is essential to connect and encourage us. As President, I hope to be an available listener, and encouraging presence. I will make sure that I share every good idea and success story that might be helpful.
I believe that we are stronger and better together as a United Church. One of my goals as President is to encourage each church in sending a representative to regional council meetings in the spring and fall each year. That is really the best way to learn how the regional and general councils can support and help ministries to thrive and grow.
Let us join together in our work, sharing our Visions and Dreams as we head into the next 100 years!
Sula Kosacky
President, Horseshoe Falls Regional Council
